Cookie Test

With the use of Deep Packet Inspection Systems for many services offered by ISPs, reliance on cookies is no longer as secure as it used to be. ISPs use DPI systems for forging cookies so that their DPI scripts can harvest your surfing data and earn extra revenue by making your data available to 3rd parites.

Simple Cookie Test

In the UK, BT is testing an adware program called BT Webwise which uses DPI and browser hijacks to forge cookies. Other ISPs around the world are also reported to be testing the program. Follow the Webwise Cookie Test link to test whether or not your cookies from this site are subjected to browser hijacking.

What Cookies are Tested?

BT Webwise forges a webwise-uid cookie in your browser for every website you visit, even sites that don't set any cookies. The above cookie test sets a webwise-uid cookie containing dummy data and a test cookie. If the test cookie and the dummy webwise-uid cookie are both returned by your browser then Webwise is not intercepting your data stream. These are the only cookies set by this site and are not used for any purpose other than the test. You can safely delete them after the test.

If you don't want to receive a dummy webwise-uid cookie, please use the Webwise Opt Out Test link. Warning, this only looks for whether or not the opt out cookie is being stripped by the Phorm / Webwise DPI intercept. To permanently remove Webwise from your Internet connection, move to a Webwise free ISP.
